About Gretchen Troop
Photography has never been just one thing for me, and it never will be. From the energy of live music to the quiet glow of a mountain at sunset, from real family connection to the sleek lines of a classic car, I’m all in. I’ve spent a lifetime chasing light, expression, and beauty across the world. Here are some snippets about my life and passions…

I have been a professional singer for most of my life. My music is soul~funk. I also play bass and am a songwriter.
Happy wife of a brilliant, handsome atmospheric scientist, who drives the cutest car

My favorite sport is Formula One, I have been to Austin for the US Grand Prix 7 times and photographed the race 6 of those times. Check out my car photography portfolio…
I bicycle year round, averaging 1,500 miles a year on dirt paths along the plains on a gravel bicycle.

I live with these two nutters. They are Ocicats, my husband is allergic to cats and these two do not shed, so no sneezing. They are the smartest, sweetest, craziest cats I’ve ever known.
Life-long lover of tent camping. My favorite style is walk-in tent glamping, but we love backpacking too!

These two are my stepkids. I’ve been with them since they were very young and we raised them half the time. They have turned into amazing humans. Having a small part in their upbringing is something that I am the most proud of in my life.
My favorite holiday is Halloween. I dress up and go out to take photos of people every year. I’ve had some insanely intricate costumes. My favorite Halloweens were in the Castro in San Francisco before the city banned it.

My husband and I love to do multi-day trips in our kayaks camping along the river. We own a fleet of kayaks so that friends and family can join us.
I worked as a landscape photographer before I became a wedding photographer. I visited and photographed every state in our country during my photography travels.

I’ve been a DJ on KGNU since 2011. My show is “Dusty Grooves” which is a soul~funk show. It’s on every Friday night from 9pm to 11pm and I am usually on the 3rd Friday of the month.
My other career before wedding photography was in music photography. I photographed festivals, bands, club music and still do! I stick with the same genre in photography as I do in performing and DJ-ing music, soul~funk.

Photography isn’t just my job, it’s something that I love doing all the time. There’s nothing more rewarding than creating meaningful photos for the couples who hire me. I’m all in! Here I am knee-deep in Lake Estes photographing a couple on a rock with the mountains behind them.
I love traveling! My favorite place on earth is Hawaii. I’m in a contest between the Big Island and Kauai as my favorite island, but haven’t been to Maui yet.
