Family Photography

After years of photographing weddings, I’ve taken thousands of family photos, what we call “formals.” At weddings, they are squeezed into tight timelines between the ceremony and couple portraits. Working under that pressure has taught me to work quickly and with purpose.

My family photo sessions slow things down and allow the character of your family to shine. I scout the best outdoor locations, bring an assistant, and use battery powered studio lighting so the mountains, or anywhere, can become our studio.

In every session, we will get the classic portraits, but I love to let real life in to those photos as well as the documentary session. Before or after the formals, we will head somewhere quieter, usually indoors, where your family can just be. The laughter, the chaos, the quiet bonds, it all shows up. These documentary style images complement the posed photographs. What you get are heirloom photos that feel like your family, as they are right now, filled with love, connection, and personality.
